From RI to OK

Football is a huge deal in Stillwater. OSU has a pretty good football team. Timm and I thought it would be a good idea to get season tickets. The first game was Saturday night. OSU played the Louisianna Cajuns. We had people over before the game to hang out and do some in-house tailgating. We happen to live about a block away from the stadium, so it is really convenient. Otherwise parking is craziness. The game started at 6, so we left at about 5. There had been a steady stream of orange shirts walking past the house towards the stadium for the past few hours. 

Here’s what it looked like when we were outside the stadium.

Inside it looked more like this. They had the band playing music and getting everyone pumped up.

They made an announcement later that there were something like 55,384 people in attendance. It was the most people they have had for the first game of the season. 

Whenever there was a touchdown they would shoot off a cannon and a horse would come galloping onto the field with the OSU cowboys flags flying behind.

The ROTC group would also do as many pushups as point that OSU had. The score ended up as 61 to 34, so they did quite a few pushups.

We had a great time and I am definitely looking forward to going to more games…especailly the OU game.

Yesterday Timm and I went with some friends to The 135th Annual Ponca City Pow Wow. It was really fun. When we first arrived we ordered Indian Tacos. They are fry bread covered in ground meat, tomatoes, cheese, and lettuce with some salsa on the side.

And I absolutely did eat the whole thing. We also had some freshly squeezed lemonade and kettle corn! 

It did rain just a little bit. But it cooled things down and there was a beautiful rainbow.

The dancing started around 8:00. The outfits the dancers were wearing were so elaborate and colorful. It was gorgeous to see. There were also people of all ages dancing. The little guy on the right side of the photo was doing a great job keeping up with the beat, though.

Going to my first Pow Wow was a really fun and interesting experience and I will totally go to more.

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry for the complete lack of updates on our progress in Oklahoma. Timm and I made it down here safely. We have been slowly settling in. The only problem was that we did not have internet!! We are now back online! Woohoo! So here is a brief summary of what we have been up to:

Paris!!!

It was beautiful!!! We stayed in our own little apartment thanks to Marie and Gerald. We had the most wonderful time exploring the city.

When we returned, the packing ensued!!

Thank you Sami, Eric, and mom for all your help getting the moving truck loaded and ready to go.

Then off we went!

We visited Nichole and Dusty in Phili and Elizabeth in DC on the way down…which turned out to be a lot more out of the way than I thought it was going to be. But oh well. I am so happy we got to visit anyways!

The drive was very interesting. For a while the road disappeared…

But we managed to get to Stillwater and are still getting things organized. The house is filled with boxes and piles of stuff waiting for shelves and bookcases to be put on.

Timm and I came back from Paris today. Or actually London, from Paris. It was an amazing trip. I will post pictures and all that fun stuff later. Right now I am attempting to procrastinate from packing by “getting things done” on the computer. I’m not quite sure what things it is I am accomplishing, though. Besides checking out facebook….

Greetings! My name is Kristina. My boyfriend, Timm, and I are moving to Oklahoma for graduate school. People have been urging me to start a blog about the process. I am going to be talking about our travels from now till we get down there and maybe a little about the process of assimilating into the Southern culture. Here goes nothing….

We have been packing for a few weeks now. Slow and steady. Yesterday turned out to be an all day packing marathon. We are now almost ready to go! Hopefully the rest of it won’t take all day today.

It’s going to be a long day. I’m off to breakfast and then more packing!
